The CalPump Solar Egglite uses 8 small light emitting diodes per pond light. Each Egglite is powered by a battery which is charged by the solar panel. The solar panel takes charges throughout the day even when there is overcast. The Egglites work for up to 24 hours on a fully charged battery. The LEDs in each pond light last much longer than a normal halogen bulb and uses much less energy allowing for the Egglite to last for 10 years or more.
